| AstraZeneca Settlement Confirmed By Justice Department |
| Posted By Personal Injury Editor |
 |
A recent story from the Dow Jones newswire reports that the U.S. Department of Justice has confirmed that AstraZeneca will pay approximately $520 million to settle accusations that it improperly promoted the drug Seroquel (quetiapine), a drug used to treat the effects of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. It is being claimed by the Justice Department that the company marketed the drug for uses that were not approved, and also offered and paid kickbacks to doctors to encourage them to prescribe the drug.
The U.S. Attorney General stated that illegal actions by pharmaceutical companies and false claims against Medicare and Medicaid can put public health at risk, take billions of dollars out of taxpayer pockets, and can corrupt medical decisions by healthcare providers.
If you or someone you know has become sick or ill after consuming an AstraZeneca product, or any other type of prescription or over-the-counter medication for that matter, you need to contact a personal injury attorney who can help you seek compensation. By speaking with an attorney, you can learn more about your legal rights and options, as well as how much in compensation you should seek for your injuries.
