  Dementia Patient Repeatedly Abused
Posted By Personal Injury Editor

Family members of a dementia patient were shocked to hear that the woman had been repeatedly abused by her care assistant.

According to the official report, the suspect, 43-year-old Paula Hawks, worked at the Chambersburg nursing home where the victim, a 93-year-old woman, lived. The incident was brought to the attention of the nursing home staff by a former co-worker, who witnessed Hawks pinching, hitting and even kicking the elderly woman.

The case was then referred to the Franklin County's Area Agency on Aging, who in turn contacted the Chambersburg police department. After investigating the circumstances, officers arrested Hawks on charges of simple assault. Richard Irwin, the president of the company that owns the home, commented about the incident, stating that "we took immediate action. When we first learned of the incident, we suspended this person." Hawks was later fired from her position at the home.

When someone you love becomes the victim of nursing home negligence or abuse, it is time to call a personal injury attorney who can help.

Nursing Home Shut Down by State
Posted By Personal Injury Editor

New information surrounding the shutdown of a Flour Bluff nursing home has been released by the state. According to this report, there are some serious allegations of nursing home abuse being held against the home.

Back on April 15, agents of the Department of Aging and Disability Services raided the Affordable Quality Care Assisted Living Center. Cameras were brought in to capture the raid intended to take the facility's operating license. Najmeh Nouri Griffin, the owner, appeared disturbed and confused by the raid; however, the most recent report shows that she must have known about the blatant abuse happening in her facility.

The document explains in detail that the center "...abused residents through physical abuse, verbal abuse, intimidation and humiliation." In addition, punishments were given out to the residents, such as two patients that were forced to "wear dirty diapers around [their] necks."

If you suspect nursing home abuse, it is advised that you discuss your concerns with a personal injury attorney immediately.

Nursing Home Resident Dies from Drowning in Tub
Posted By Personal Injury Editor

This week, the Chicago Tribune reported that a nursing home resident died after drowning.  According to the newspaper, 51 year old Jean Engstrom was a mentally ill patient at the Warren Park Nursing Pavilion.  On July 4th, she died from drowning while taking a bath.

Warren Park Nursing Pavilion is a facility that provides care to 100 residents and is located in West Rogers Park.

Shortly before 9:00 PM, Ms. Engstrom was discovered in her bathtub with the water still running.  The other residents were still partaking in 4th of July events at that time.

The facility's staff called police who tried to revive Engstrom, but they were unsuccessful.  Ms. Engstrom died after arriving at St. Francis Hospital.  An investigation is still in progress for her death and police have not ruled out homicide or nursing home negligence as possibilities.

If you or someone you care for has been a victim of nursing home negligence, it is important that you get a personal injury attorney involved as soon as possible.

Widow Sues Nursing Home for Husband's Death
Posted By Personal Injury Editor

In Charleston, a woman is filing a personal injury lawsuit against Beverly Enterprises.  She claims that her husband's death resulted from medical negligence that occurred while he was a resident at Golden Living Center.

Aside from Beverly Enterprises, the widow listed the following entities as defendants:  Filmore Capital Partners, LLC; Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Services, Inc.; Golden Gate National Senior Care, LLC; GGNSC Holdings, LLC; GGNSC Clinical Services, LLC; GPH St. Albans, LLC.  She also listed Jason Gibson, the administrator of Golden Living Center.

According to a complaint filed with Kanawha Circuit Court on May 17th, the wrongful death victim Donald B. Hall was admitted into Golden Living Center.  On May 17th, he started to suffer from an increased accumulation of mucus in his lungs and throat.  The following day, Mr. Hall was found dead.

His wife, Pauline Hall, asserts that the defendants did not meet the acceptable standard of care and that they violated their duty of care.  She also claims that Mr. Hall was a victim of nursing home negligence and mistreatment.  At this time, Mrs. Hall is seeking both punitive and compensatory damages from the defendants.

Whenever people have been victims of nursing home negligence or abuse, they should speak with a personal injury attorney immediately.
