In Fargo, news sources report that a 51 year old woman had to seek emergency medical treatment after she was bitten by a dog.  The woman allegedly reached down to pet a stranger's dog this past Tuesday when the dog bite occurred.

The victim said she was smoking a cigarette outside of Bismarck Tavern at around 8:30 PM when the stranger walked by with two dogs.  She told police that she had bent down to touch the larger of the two dogs.  When she bent down, the dog bit her in her face.  After the incident, she had to be taken to MeritCare Hospital to receive treatment for her wound.

When police questioned the dog's owner, the owner said the dog scratched the victim's face, but did not bite it.  Police plan to check the dog's shot records and continue their investigation.

If you have been a dog bite victim, you may be entitled to compensation.  Speak with a personal injury lawyer to learn more about your options.

Widow of Prisoner Files Wrongful Death Claim
Posted By Personal Injury Editor

In Arkansas, a widow of a man who passed away while imprisoned in White County Jail recently filed a wrongful death claim.  In her claim, Marilyn Haynes lists a sheriff as the defendant and says that her husband's death was the result of, "the defendants' deliberate indifference to the decedent's serious medical needs."

On May 10 2007, James Haynes was arrested for several felony offenses.  Some of his charges included third-degree domestic violence and battery.  Three weeks after being arrested and held in jail, staff from the prison found Haynes lying on the floor of his cell.  They immediately rushed him to the jail's infirmary.

While he was transported to the infirmary, Haynes became unresponsive.  Later, it was reported that he had went into cardiac arrest, which led to his death.  Despite the widow's allegations, deputies say that the jail staff did nothing wrong and that Haynes was provided with immediate medical attention.

If you plan to file a wrongful death claim, it is important that you secure the services of a personal injury lawyer that can ensure your claim is successful.

Key Terminology for Spinal Cord Injuries
Posted By Personal Injury Editor

The classification of spinal cord injuries is determine by both the neurological level of the injury and the so-called completeness of the injury, and these classifications directly relate to your ability to control your limbs after a spinal cord injury. The neurological level of your injury is determined by the lowest, normally functioning segment of your spinal cord. A spinal cord injury is considered complete if all sensation and motor function is lost below the neurological level, or point of injury. An incomplete spinal cord injury is one in which some motor function and sensory function is maintained below the neurological level.

Paralysis resulting from a spinal cord injury is referred to as tetraplegia or quadriplegia if your arms, torso, legs, and pelvic organs are all affected by your injury. Paralysis is referred to as paraplegia if the paralysis affects all or part of the torso, legs, and pelvic organs.
